Border Jumpers Take V Readers Through the Ravages - and Victories - of Sub-Saharan Africa
"Last month I turned twenty-nine years old," says the Border Jumpers blogger. "For most of the world, that’s still considered very young. I still have my whole life ahead of me. But here in Kenya – where, according to statistics just released in the Kenya Economic Report 2009, people living in places like Mombasa, located on the Southern coast of the country, average life expectancy is just thirty years."
In recognition of the November theme in V Magazine for Women, "A Global View," MyVMagazine.com e-zine has added an informative, earth-shrinking blog to their "Voices" page. "Border Jumpers" follows the travels of two activists as they travel throughout sub-Saharan Africa, reporting on what Africans are doing to respond to the huge challenges of drought, hunger, and poverty.
The "Rethinking Turning Thirty" blog post ends: "So while many of my friends lament turning the big 3-0, I’m feeling pretty lucky."
Such a blog reminds local readers of the big world beyond Central Virginia - that though the economy may have many of us down, others have it worse. Fortunately, the Border Jumpers blog also reminds its readers of the perseverance of the human spirit, that those who are suffering are also acting to combat their problems. Such a message is perfectly suited to the celebratory nature of V Magazine for Women. The Voices blog
