Fly High Above

by Doreen Washington

we_are_womanIn 1983, astronaut and astrophysicist, Sally Ride became the first American woman in space. She grew up in Los Angeles and went to Stanford University where she was a double major in physics and English. Sally Ride beat out 1,000 other applicants for a spot in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) astronaut program. She went through the program’s rigorous training program and got her chance to go into space.

On June 18, Ride became the first American woman in space aboard the space shuttle Challenger. As a mission specialist, she helped deploy satellites and worked other projects. She returned to Earth on June 24.

We may not all get to fly in space, but we can fly far above our circumstances. We can fly so high that we are looking down on the trouble that seems to try and overtake us. Let's see ourselves flying high above anything that attempts to hurt, hinder or crush our dreams! Let's fly high above sickness, disease, critical family and friends and those who seem to never be satisfied with our existence. When you are flying high above the displeasures in life and have mastered its’ tickets and techniques, you will not only fly higher and with more ease, but you will be able to help others around you that may be in desperate need of learning how to fly high above their circumstances as you do. Your altitude is in your attitude only.

Fly high above! Will you see yourself flying high above?
