Becoming a "Sustainable Richmond"
On First Friday, June 4, 7-10:30pm, Gallery5 presents a FREE event created to encourage environmental consciousness by promoting the products, services, and programs offered by local eco-friendly organizations and businesses.
Dozens of local organizations will vend this event to present their products and services to our community through free take-home information, samples, demonstrations and more! Over 300 tomato plants, pots and organic soil have been graciously donated by Strange's Greenhouse. Audience members will be able to pot their own plants and take them home. Also featuring demonstrations and presentations on Urban Beekeeping, Rooftop Gardening, Solar Power installation, Rain Barrel usage, eco-friendly cleaning, gardening and cosmetic supplies, landscaping, composting, green containers, flower pot recycling and dozens more!
Some of these businesses include Strange's Greenhouse, Virginia Sierra Club, Riverbed Nursery, Live Roof, Green Goat, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Green Duck, Food not Bombs, River City Cleaning, Sprout Market, GreenGardens, Healthy House, The Central Virginia Gardeners Forum and dozens more!
This event is held in conjunction with The James River Green Building Council's presentation of the 2010 “Green Spaces” competition "Stay Space." It will be located in our upstairs gallery.
Gallery5, in collaboration with the JRGBC, has created the ongoing campaign "Sustainable Richmond Community Forum" intended to promote dialogue between members of our community. We ask that our community use this forum to voice their concerns and ideas of a more sustainable Richmond.
This forum will be presented to Richmond's new Sustainability Director in hopes of bringing our concerns and ideas to council to be utilized in future planning and private/public development initiatives. You can continue to voice your concerns and begin new dialogues with members on the Sustainable Richmond Facebook Group page.
OR, you can attend the First Friday Opening Reception on Friday, June 4th at Gallery5 from 7PM-10PM and participate in our live interactive display upstairs. All ideas and concerns will be recorded and given to city representatives in hopes if building a more sustainable future in our city. Keep an eye out for our Sustainable Richmond Flower Pot Campaign at participating businesses.
Gallery5 is located at 200 W. Marshall St. in Richmond, Virginia.
