V Community News - Voices

It was like watching a soap opera. The conversation had a plot and included outrageous tales and fantasy moments and incorporated judgment and consequences. All of which never happened. This was not the rehashing of a previous conversation … but a story made of whole cloth and imagination.

A bright, starburst flash rolled over me and in that brief glimpse into sanity, I realized that my fantasy conversations were all about trying to inflate my own ego and make myself good enough. Again, whatever good enough really means. I was trying to manipulate a conversation that never took place so that I could feel good about myself and consequently make her understand why she was inadequate. Maybe she would finally understand her erring ways in her relationship with others, namely me. On the off chance that I would ever meet this person again, I was expecting our dance of shame and anger to change its steps based on a conversation that didn’t happen and in which she didn’t participate.

Searching For Love?

by Doreen Washington

we_are_womanNow that we should understand and appreciate who we are and who we have become - we are now ready for love. We’re ready for a love that appreciates where we’ve been, where we’re heading for the future (if we know this) and the things that we’ve been through within our life’s journey.

Love - what is it to you? How does this word define itself within your thoughts? Does the word “love” express everything that you’ve ever wished for, and does the desire for it take up the most part of your inner being? Is it all that is left in you to have or to give? If your answers are yes, then maybe you still need more time to evaluate your purposes for love and how a love relationship should interact in your life.

Love isn’t a force that travels through our hearts and spirits and once it reaches these areas it sucks all the life, joy, ambition, direction, self-confidence and self-worth out of us. No, it’s completely the opposite. It brings life, joy, ambition, direction, and confidence and pushes us to invest in another when there’s no evidence that we should.

Our Earth, Our Home - Nature

When Mother Nature Strikes

by Sylvia Wright, The Wright Scoop

scan0002Eco-chic, traditionally defined as ‘providing for the present without sacrificing the future’, is more than lifestyle choices. It includes acquiring a healthy respect for the eco-consequence of these choices.

A few years ago, USA Today newspaper printed an insert titled ‘Is there a safe place to live?’ Nation-wide escalating forms of climate change were depicted. Yet, although daily reminded of these eco-consequences, are you presently aware of the severity of increased weather cycles?

A margarine advertisement once announced Mother Nature’s displeasure for being fooled into thinking a product was real butter. In anger, she said, “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature.” Waving her arms black clouds swirled, thunder bellowed and lightning slithered through the sky. I was reminded of this advertisement when I watched a more than 100-year old oak glow as if lighted and shake from its leaf tips to roots. Struck by lightening, bark peeled in strips, hung rope-like through out the tree and pieces were scattered for 50 or more feet.

Through this experience, I most certainly gained perspective of the effect of severe storms; but, if you heard thunder or saw lightening, what would you do? Would you run outside to retrieve trivial items; or, seek shelter?

From MA to GA, Enjoy a Summer Treat

jaxsons_ice_creamNothing says summer like an ice cream cone. It’s a happy childish memory that lives on in all of us and always remains a treat, something to look forward to - especially on a long car drive.

Along I-95, you are lucky to be able to dig in to homemade ice cream from North to South. From Dirt Pie in MA to a salute to hometown Savannah GA guy Johnny Mercer, with Tutti Frutti. Yup, it's all on the road, even including the kitchen sink - a communal offering served in a kitchen sink (what else?) in FL.
