postheadericon You, too can be a pilot!

Sporting Women - Individual eVents

Would you like to fly without the hassles of airline security, etc? Be your own pilot! Looking for a new hobby/challenge/adventure? Learn to fly! Think your age would prevent you from pursuing this adventure? No way! You can begin to log flight time at age 16 and solo at 17. And many people learn to fly in their 70s!

Picture yourself flying over the local area at the flight controls. Most area airports have flight schools where you can book a Discovery Flight which will put you in the left seat (pilot's seat) with a licensed instructor to guide you. Think your fear of heights would prevent this great experience? Actually many pilots have a fear of heights when looking out upper story windows/balconies/mountain sides etc. but somehow being in a plane is "different" and they do not experience that fear. Try it, see for yourself.

There is a ready-made support group of other women pilots eager to help you as you go through the process of learning to fly.

The Ninety-Nines (International Organization of Women Pilots) have all been there, done that and would love to hear your experiences and cheer you on. The organization was founded in 1929 and Amelia Earhart was first president. Learn all about our illustrious history and current on-line resources at http://www.ninety-nines.org/

For info on East coast resources go to http://mid-atlantic99s.org/ Locally the Virginia Chapter of The Ninety-Nines has members ranging in age from 17 to 87. We meet monthly usually at 11 AM on the third Saturday. The location changes each month and are usually held at airports around central VA.

For details on upcoming meetings contact Betty Vinson, Membership Chair at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 804-720-1132.

Picture yourself a part owner of four well-equipped aircraft. As a member of Wing Nuts Flying Club you could be in that envious position. This 66 member group comprised of males and females meets at 7:00 PM twice a month on the first and third Tuesdays at Chesterfield Airport. For details, go to www.wingnutsflying.com. Betty Vinson (contact info above) can also give you details on the club. LET’S GO FLYING!!
