Third-annual Pets on Parade Benefit & Auction supports FETCH a Cure's Companion in Crisis Program
On Friday, June 4th, FETCH a Cure raised awareness and money with its 3rd annual Pets on Parade Benefit & Auction. Proceeds and support from the event totaled about $162,000, a 28% increase over last year's event. Funds raised support the Companions in Crisis campaign, which provides much needed financial assistance to families that cannot afford the life saving treatments and medication for their pets that have been diagnosed with cancer.
"FETCH a Cure's annual benefit is of course a fundraiser, but it is also a celebration of how important our relationships with our pets are and how they enhance our lives," said Joanne Silverman, Executive Director of FETCH a Cure. "Some attend to remember those they have lost to cancer and inspire them to give back. Some people attend to have fun with their dogs and some want to raise funds so that those less fortunate will be able to apply for financial aid through our Companions in Crisis program."
"With continued support from all these wonderful people and businesses, FETCH will be able to serve even more of our community by enabling diagnostic testing and making treatments for pets with cancer even more accessible in the future and that is what we are all working so hard to achieve."
This year's event was again held at The Science Museum of Virginia, and included a silent and live auction, food from local restaurants, drinks and live music by The Cashmere Junglelords. Guests bid on art pieces and steel "pup" sculptures by local artists and other special packages. The 2010 Awareness award was presented to special guests Luke Robinson and his dogs, Hudson & Murphy. The 2010 Inspiration award was presented posthumously to Pixie Williams and was accepted by her sister. The evening was sponsored by Dominion, Village Bank and The Science Museum of Virginia.
