Honor Flights for Veterans
A Service for Those Who Have Supported Our Freedoms
As promised, we at Kinks, Quirks and Caffeine are announcing our plans to sponsor an "Honor Flight." "What is an Honor Flight?" is the first thing that people generally ask when I tell them about my lofty goals. I answer, that it's our chance, and our duty to say "thank you" to the people that gave us our freedom.
Some people give me a 'quizzical look' and have the idea that I'm somewhat of an 'unlikely advocate' for WWII Veterans. But, the bottom line is this.... I love being an American. It is everything to me. I am a woman who is allowed to vote. I own my own business. I own property. And, I can express myself freely. These are all freedoms (and priviliges) that I do not take for granted.
Many years ago, I saw a show on CBS Sunday Morning that featured the Honor Flight Organization. It touched me so, that I can still be moved to tears several years later. Through this organization, I have made a personal promise to sponsor an Honor Flight Trip, which will take place on April 17, 2010. The
Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all of their sacrifices.
Click here to watch an amazing video produced by Time Magazine on the Honor Flight Organization.
On April 17th, we will transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority will be given to the senior veterans - World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.
Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation - and as a culturally diverse, free society. Now, with over one thousand World War II veterans dying each day, our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.
I am asking for your support.
There are many ways you can help.
If you have any fundraising ideas, or can participate in any way.... please let me know.
Help Veterans register to attend...If you know of someone interested, please let me know.
As you can see, most of the Veterans are wheelchair-bound, which means that the Guardian:Veteran ratio is 1:1. You can register as a guardian. Click here for a Guardian Application.
Show up in Williamsburg on the morning of the trip with your American Flags and noisemakers to show your support for the Veterans.... They LOVE it!
Let your kids participate. Click here for patriotic coloring pages ~ drop them off at Kinks, Quirks & Caffeine in Williamsburg, VA and we will cheerfully distribute them to the Veterans on the day of our trip.
Of course, any financial contribution is greatly appreciated. The entire trip is FREE to the Veterans!
Click here for information on making a donation.
Please help to support our efforts and this important cause by making a contribution...NOTHING is too small. Even just $1 will show your support, and the Veterans would greatly appreciate it. You can make your donation online by simply clicking here. Please remember as you're making your donation that in the time it took to read this e-mail, three Veterans have died, most likely without seeing the memorial built in their honor.
