Work It, Girl! - First Person Tales

Margaret Rush of The Springboard GroupI am pleased to don a new hat and to (re-)introduce myself to you as Marketing Representative for The Springboard Group, Inc.  Springboard helps people in life transitions launch new lives and to find the positive aspects in those transitions.  This hat seems to fit me well in so many ways.  Just in the last 5 years, I have been through divorce, the death of my mother and a major career transition.  I am, by nature, a concierge and a diplomat, compassionate and ministerial.

I am the chief “cat-herder” in my household - a happily divorced mother of two teenage boys and chief door-opener for 2 dogs of indeterminate parentage and sweet demeanors.   I have a companion who is here as often as his own work and family responsibilities allow.

The divorce was my doing; that said, it was still difficult, stressful, and opened doors I didn’t even know were down that hallway.  Launching New Lives would have been a great resource in steering me to the right doors, but I fumbled my way through and came out the other side stronger and more resilient.

My mother died very suddenly about 5 years ago.  Again, Launching New Lives might have been helpful with best ways to deal with the expected grief of that loss, and the unexpected hurdles of dealing with her estate.  We were close, and I still miss her every day.

My father is 80+ years old, and lives in another state.  Although married and surrounded by the strong family support system of his wife, and (thankfully!) cogent, he is he is also frail and MY father!  I anticipate using resources to which I will introduce you shortly to help navigate the ever-expanding options in caring for our elderly loved ones.

Like so many in the Richmond area in the last several months, my previous employer has disappeared off the corporate landscape.  I was about 2/3 of the way through completing VCU’s Executive MBA program when I was let go last fall.  I had planned to scale the company’s corporate ladder when I finished; instead I find myself building a whole new ladder, and, despite the external stresses and the tales of doom and gloom from all fronts, I find myself enjoying the experience of that transition (most of the time, anyway!)  After all, it has brought me here in front of you!

Are you a compassionate, experienced professional in the legal, financial or counseling world?  Are you an individual overwhelmed by the transitions being thrown at your feet?   Let’s travel this road together and help each other on the way, shall we?!  Visit  Springboard and let’s get started!
